The movie is based on Marvel's Iron Man character that debuted in 1963 in Tales of Suspense #39 (originally published 9/59). He quickly became one of comics' most popular characters, appearing in over 100 issues before getting his own title in 1967. The Tony Stark/Iron Man alter ego was created by Stan Lee and Don Heck for this series. The plot of the movie is based on the Iron Man mini-series "Iron Man: The Gauntlet" written by Matt Fraction with art by Salvador Larroca. The plot focuses on Stark being framed for murder and being on the run from the government while attempting to clear his name. Tony's life is turned upside down when he encounters an old adversary, known as Whiplash, who takes him on a journey through hellish villains designed to put him under their control. Through it all, he is also searching for what he believes to be remnants of his true self within himself. The movie was an instant hit, receiving more than $156 million in the U.S. on its opening weekend, making it the second biggest debut for a 2010 film (behind Alice in Wonderland). Worldwide, it made $585 million on its opening weekend (the fifth biggest), and had a total of $624 million by June 26. THE AUDIO TRACKMarvel has already released the official soundtrack of the movie, featuring 25 tracks with music from AC/DC, Lady Gaga, Black Sabbath and 5 Iron Man 2 original songs. The soundtrack is available for download on iTunes and on Amazon.com. The biggest surprise is the lack of original music from Iron Man himself, singer/songwriter/artist Imogen Heap.
